Pronunciation?

[edit]

How do we pronounce "Haganah" in English? Can someone please add that to the article? DBlomgren (talk) 04:00, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounced hah gah nah, similar to Masada. --2001:BB6:7A98:2358:D869:5314:DAAD:A0EC (talk) 20:22, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page's name

[edit]

Hi. The name of the page should be 'hahaganah', not 'hagana'. If you'll look at the hebrew page, you'll see two 'hay' letters. (ה) In hebrew, ה before a word, means 'the'. So hahagana, translates to 'the defence' 'hagana' by it self just means defence. 2A00:A040:1A3:1035:EDBA:5608:B667:18C3 (talk) 05:31, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it's also the name of the organization in general. The initial ה is like "the" in Hebrew. So currently the page name says haganah while it's supposed to be the haganah or hahaganah Someonefighter (talk) 14:45, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

transcription edit

Revise

  • Haganah (Hebrew: הַהֲגָנָה ha-Ganah, lit. 'The Defense')

to

  • The Haganah (Hebrew: הַהֲגָנָה ha-Haganah, lit. 'The Defense')

As it stands, it gives the (incorrect) impression that the definite article ha- is subsumed into the name like in Hashomer, which is simply not the case. Kyoto Grand (talk) 20:57, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I fixed it. Zerotalk 00:36, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What drove the jewd toward establishing the haganah?

[edit]

the page does not mention what made them realize they can't rely on the British. It was the 1920 nebi musa riots, as mentioned Here and in the nebi musa wiki. I do not understand how you claim the haganah was involved in a riot that was before it Someonefighter (talk) 14:59, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
